After years of illustrating for Arabic children’s books, I finally found the opportunity to write and illustrate one of my own, with Kalila wa Dimna Publishing. Loosely translated, the title of the book is “You grew and grew, until you became you!”.
The idea came about 2 years ago, in the middle of Covid, my sister got pregnant and moved to Canada. She would send us updates of how big my niece was getting in her belly.. the size of a lemon! An avocado! A cabbage! Until the day she was born! Those 9 months inspired me to write this book – in my colloquial/ broken/ often made-up Arabic, about my gorgeous baby niece and how she grew in my sisters belly to become the unique adorable bright cuddly baby girl she is. We love you Talia.
