With these foundations in place, there are two specific methods that Executive Coaches use to an overview of a client’s objectives. The two techniques we will be discussing are (1) Trio positioning Technique and (2) The Timeline Technique.
The Trio Positioning Technique, like its name, uses the concept of three hats/caps to allow the client to receive a 360 view of their project.
- The Visionary: The first cap focuses on the idea of the dreamer, visualization of the project and its objectives. It prompts the following question: “Where do they see themselves?”
- The Action-Taker: The second cap puts forward a more practical take. Which actions are needed to get the plan completed?
- The Critique: The third cap critiques the second one. What could have been done better? What did you miss to incorporate within your plan?
Each cap builds onto its predecessor, to create an all-encompassing view of success. Taking the necessary measures to allow the project to flourish gradually.
The Timeline Technique
The Timeline Technique is a strategic approach to planning that is particularly well-suited for long-term plans. This technique involves employing a backward strategy, where the planning process begins with the end goal and works backward to the present moment. The primary objective is to create a comprehensive and flexible plan that can adapt to changing circumstances.
- Backward Strategy: The Timeline Technique reverses the process. It begins with a clear understanding of the desired result and then works backward to identify the necessary steps to reach that goal.
- Time Frame: The plan is organized based on a specific time frame, which could involve breaking down the steps week by week or month by month. This time-based organization ensures a realistic and manageable approach to implementing the plan over the entire duration.
- Flowing Plan: To make the plan more manageable, the Timeline Technique often involves breaking down larger goals into smaller, achievable tasks. These tasks are then incorporated into the timeline, making it easier to track progress and stay on course.
By using the Timeline Technique, individuals and organizations can create strategic and adaptive plans for the future.
