Art Trends: Discovering art style in modern day Lebanon.

For centuries, art has undergone a remarkable evolution, from its early stages in Egyptian Hieroglyphs to the present day, where it is often reflective of political and social narratives, Art trends have continually adapted to the changing times and events. Geographical spaces have also impacted the way artistic expressions are shaped, with each region bringing in its own unique form of influences and perspectives.

Lebanon’s art scene has witnessed shifts in its art scene over time, while the most noticeable type of art in Lebanon is Street Art, which has served as a canvas for political imageries or social commentaries. Notably, Street Art has been utilized to depict the tragic event of the August 4th explosion, as well as many other social narratives. This type of art was a trend as a means of giving a voice to emote and have a stance that resonates with its people.

Throughout history, Life has always influenced art, manifesting in both simple and complex ways. In Lebanon, the contemporary art scene has shifted towards simplicity and whimsicalness. Artists have welcomed a more direct and light-hearted approach to captivate audiences. This is realized through a more minimalistic expression of art to align itself with broader trends, with the usage of clean lines, and bold colors. This genre conveys emotions and ideas in a more modern, sleek, and fresh manner.

In contrast to older art trends in Lebanon, which often presented an objective viewpoint, the emergence of Minimalism has heralded a departure from battle-worn artistic norms. Instead, it offers a more liberating, subjective, and imaginative approach to art. This evolution in genre empowers both creators and viewers to shed the weight of historical scars and embrace a more open-minded and personal perspective on artistic expression.

Lebanon’s art trends have been a journey that mirrors the global narrative of art’s evolution. From its historical roots to its more modern forms, the nation’s art scene is not purely a reflection of its societal dynamics but also its willingness to adapt and explore novel artistic avenues. The transition towards a more minimal art trend makes it also a much more universal trend that can be globally related.
