8 Self-Care Practices for Women

Challenging times can bring about a roller coaster of emotions. Are you finding it hard to stay positive and motivated nowadays? You are not alone. There are thousands of women out there who are struggling to stay afloat in the middle of this pandemic. Dealing with this health crisis is not easy, most especially if our timelines are filled with overwhelming news about COVID19.

Don’t let this period of uncertainty lead your sanity to even darker moments. Stay grounded and calm by engaging in new practices that will transform you to a healthy, happy lady. Here are some helpful self-care practices for women that will prevent you from falling into that negative thought spiral.

1.Spend some time alone.

Take your beauty rest and alone times to the next level. You need this not just to look beautiful and fresh, but also to stay physically healthy. Distance yourself from the harsh world around you by reading a book in your room, catching up on sleep, working out, re-watching your favorite movies, or just simply sitting on a comfortable chair by the window while enjoying a cup of chamomile tea.

2. Come up with a healthier routine.

Stress and anxiety can eventually lead us to a downward spiral. Soon, you’ll see your unproductive self sitting in a little corner, no longer motivated to do the things you used to enjoy. Push yourself to stick to a new, healthy routine. Eat your meals at the right times. Enjoy fruitful conversations with your loved ones. Listen to inspirational music. These may appear like trivial activities, but can make a huge positive difference to how you take care of your mind and body.

3. Relax and meditate.

Research on relaxation and meditation techniques that will help you feel better. If there is a self-care technique that is sure to reduce stress and anxiety levels, that’s meditation. There are tons of mindful and relaxation exercises on YouTube that you can try. In case negative thoughts arise in the process, acknowledge all of them, and then move forward.

4. Repeat affirmations to motivate yourself.

Affirmations are words or statements that we tell ourselves in order to influence our thinking habits and behavior. These affirmations instantly deliver good mental images to our minds, motivating and inspiring us to delve on the positive. Each time you feel anxious, repeat an affirmation to alter the course of your thoughts.

Here are some amazing positive affirmations that you can voice out to yourself everyday:

“I’m attractive, loving and successful.”

“I’m so ready for a new, exciting, and healthy experience every day.”

“I’m living a magical life, and golden opportunities are coming for me.”

“I’m filled with so much confidence, hope, and love.”

5. Take care of your own body.

Physical and mental health are equally important. I know you are having a wonderful time contemplating by the window, but you also need to move every once in a while to release more feel-good hormones! Maintain a regular exercise routine. Apart from that, make sure that you eat a balanced diet, and get enough sleep. In case you don’t know, these kinds of physical activities can make us stronger, and help us manage the long-term effects of anxiety and stress.

6. Be in a supportive, inspiring environment.

I know a lot of women out there juggle multiple roles in the household, and might find it hard to find even just a relaxing, little corner. If you are one of those busy ladies, take it one step at a time. You can start by de-cluttering your home or car, or by cleaning your room. Afterwards, ask yourself: “do I feel inspired by this kind of environment? Does it empower me in every way?”.

7. Be generous and kind to yourself.

Looking out for your health and well-being is crucial in the middle of the pandemic. Time after time, you are sure to get preoccupied with overwhelming news that cultivate fear and stress. To get through this, treat yourself as your best friend. That way, you can focus more on your unique needs and goals. Self-love and self-care contribute to a healthy you!

8. Take a break from social media.

Yes, there’s such a thing as social media distancing! Give yourself a break from the noisy internet world! Taking your eyes off your phone screen, and resisting the urge to check notifications will allow you to discover new things about yourself. Why not log out of social media for a few days? Spend time with your pets, do some gardening, bake some cookies, start a new crochet project or enroll in an online course. Do something you are passionate about instead of scrolling your Facebook news feed!
